Four more people including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Mumtaz Ahmed Jajja died due to dengue fever here on Thursday. Mumtaz Ahmed Jajja who was MPA from Bahawalpur was under treatment here at the intensive care unit of Jinnah Hospital for the last three days. Doctors said, all efforts were made to save the life of MPA but he could not survive. He was also reportedly facing some other health problems.
Other three women who died due to dengue are: Gulnaz (50), Saima (30), and Sobia (35). Gulnaz and Saima died in Mayo and Ganga ram Hospitals while Sobia died at a local private hospital. Due to increase in duration of loadshedding, people are facing hardships, as they used to go on roof tops and open places, which raise the threat of biting of dengue mosquito to the citizens.
Health professionals have urged the authorities concerned that the problems of dengue patients should be lessened by eliminating loadshedding from Lahore. They said patients management planning is being badly affected due to long hours loadshedding. They added that threats to the lives of dengue patients in ICU wards have been increasing due to loadshedding.
On the instructions of the provincial government, "High Dependency Units" have been set up in government hospitals where continuous care of serious dengue patients is being made. During the last 24 hours, 330 fresh dengue cases have been reported in Punjab, of which, 280 belong to Lahore. The total number of dengue patients in the province has reached to 11900 whereas 10500 are from Lahore. Over 1390 patients are under treatment in various hospitals.
The provincial government has also decided to distribute dengue safety kits among poor people to eliminate dengue. These kits will be provided on the recommendations of Chairmen Zakat of the Union Councils. Moreover, Emergency Response Committee for dengue, Gulberg Town has decided to hire 30 people on work-charge basis and 15 motorcycles along with purchase of 15 plastic spray machines in order to ensure the achievement of 100 per cent fogging target in Gulberg Town.
This decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, MNA held here on Thursday, which was attended by Mian Mohsin Lateef, MPA, administrator Gulberg Town, SP Special Branch and other officers concerned of various departments. The meeting was informed that Emergency Response Committee had so far ensured 796 fogging, 476 IRS and 26 chemical sprays through out the town. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq appreciated the progress of response committee and directed the officers to ascertain their attendance in daily meetings. Otherwise the officers remaining on continuous absence will be dealt with an iron hands including their suspension from service.
