Chairman Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Ijaz A Khokhar has welcomed Indian support for Pakistan's EU waiver package in WTO and assured that it would not hurt Indian interests in the EU market. The EU has offered market access to 75 textile items with monetary advantage of about $600 million to the country.
The EU had offered this facility last year after devastating floods in the country but India had objected it in WTO. The chairman PRGMEA appreciated the efforts of the Prime Minister Gilani, Federal Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Secretary Commerce and Chairman Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) for their sincere efforts in pursuing India to pave the way for EU concessions for Pakistan.
He further said that India would extend similar support for Pakistan when it would qualify for GSP Plus for EU in 2014. Ijaz Khokhar urged the government policymakers to expedite preparations for presentation of Pakistan's case in the WTO in the future. He added that the government should take all stakeholders into confidence while preparing the presentation for the WTO members.
