A comprehensive plan is being envisaged to drain out standing rainwater of the rural areas of District Tando Mohammad Khan to reclaim the farm land for next crops. This is informed by Syed Barkat Ahmed Rizvi District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Tando Mohammad Khan during his visit at Moya, Bulri Shah Karim and Tando Ghulam Hyder of Tando Mohammad Khan today.
He made the visit to assess the accumulated rainwater in these areas and to calculate the ways and means for drainage. Talking to the official media, Syed Barkat Ahmed Rizvi said that plan is being prepared with the consultation of the irrigation experts.
He said that efforts would be made to drain out this water through saline drains, Guni Canal and other natural escaping ways towards sea. He said that according to rough estimate these sources of drainage have total capacity to drain out 700 to 800 cusecs as such it will take two to three weeks to complete the job.
He said that 70 percent population of Tando Mohammad Khan district belongs to rural areas, who have been suffering a lot due to rainwater and lack of drainage system. He said that District Tando Mohammad Khan has sustained huge loss of public and private property for which physical survey is in the way. He said that Sindh government is envisaging other welfare schemes for rain-affected persons and also to support the farmers for the cultivation of their next crops.
He said that due to continuous threat from weather now permanent solution of the challenges is needed for which study would be conducted for preparation of future plan. During the visit DCO also met with the farmers, villagers and rain- affected persons and assured them that their difficulties would be resolved within a month's time.
