Provincial Minister for Agriculture, Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh said that media is of paramount importance in the development of agriculture. Print and electronic media can play an important role for conveying modern agricultural research to the farmers.
While addressing a ceremony held on the topic of Importance of Agriculture Journalism, the Minister said that the progress made by print and electronic media during past few years is laudable and through media benefits of agriculture inventions, science research and opinions of agriculturists can be effectively conveyed to the farmers.
He said that even today there is a great difference between progressive and traditional cultivation and the media by affectively transferring latest techniques of cultivation to the farmers can reduce this difference to a large extent. He said if all the farmers adopt latest techniques of agriculture then agriculture produce can be increased manifold. Therefore agriculture department is utilising print and electronic media in a better way for informing the farmers of agriculture information, he added. He said that Punjab government has made effective measures for the development of agriculture sector as a result of which production of important crops has been increased during the last three years and a record production of one crore and 90 lakh ton of wheat was yielded during the last year while Punjab has also exported nine lakh tons wheat during last three months.
Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh stated that huge funds have been provided to the institutions associated with agricultural research for the uplift of agriculture sector and under Green Tractor Scheme; tractors have been provided on subsidised rates to the farmers in a transparent manner.
