Several Intermediate Boards in Punjab have cancelled first year results. The measure was taken following protests across Punjab against the publication of wrong Intermediate part-1 results on the Internet. Speaking to the media, provincial Education Minister Mujtaba Shuja said Intermediate Boards of Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Multan had cancelled first year results.
Results would be announced again after two months and students who scored between 600-900 would get their papers re-checked without being charged any fees. Earlier, hundreds of students staged a protest demonstration against 'Result Late' (RL) and errors in paper checking in front of the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) on Saturday.
Angry students chanted slogans against the BISE management and blocked the road. The students demanded the Punjab chief minister should take notice and suspend responsible staff. Students and parents complain that Punjab government made available the results online sans training board's concerned personnel, resulting in the blunder.
Failed students were declared successful and vice versa in the Online results, adding to the miseries of students already facing problems in receiving exam slips for their relevant examination centres. The students also warned the management that they would continue their protest till the acceptance of their demands. Students of Punjab College of Commerce also staged a protest demonstration at Muslim Town Morr against the BISE management. The students also raised slogans against the computerisation system and demanded that it should be reverted to old system.
Acting Chairman Lahore Board Dr Allah Baksh Malik said that they will take action against those who were involved in the irregularities in the results of Part 1 of intermediate examination. He said that 2400 students had given applications for rechecking and after rechecking they will awarded marks according to their ability. While talking about the benefits of the on line system Malik said that on line system will be helpful in controlling the issuing of fake certificates and fake candidates will be pointed out immediately adding that manual and on line system are running parallel. While in a press statement Insaf Student Federation demanded that Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry should take suo motu action against the culprits.
While on Friday Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif suspended Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Secretary Mushtaq Ahmad Tahir and held his decision in abeyance later in the evening. The board secretary was suspended owing to flawed results and continuous protest demonstrations by students. However, the chief minister was later informed that the board secretary had no role in preparation and declaration of results.
