KIEV: Ukraine has boosted its exports of oilseeds by more than 52 percent to 3.5 million tonnes so far this season thanks to bumper rapeseed sales, its state service for food safety said on Thursday.

Rapeseed exports totalled 2 million tonnes so far in 2017/18 compared with 880,000 tonnes in the same period in 2016/17, the service said in a statement.

Ukraine also exported 1.5 million tonnes of soybean and an insignificant amount of sun seeds and others oilseeds, it said.

The country harvested around 12 million tonnes of sun seeds, 3.8 million tonnes of soybeans and 2.2 million tonnes of rapeseed in 2017.

Last month, consultancy UkrAgroConsult forecast Ukraine would nearly double its rapeseed sales to 2.0 million tonnes in the 2017/18 season, from 1.04 million tonnes in 2016/17.
