Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) on Thursday claimed to have arrested some 21 suspects including a commander of banned outfit Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in separate raids at various parts of the metropolis. According to sources, heavy contingent of law enforcers late Wednesday cordoned off Mangopir, Kati Pahari and other surrounding areas and launched a door-to-door search, which led to the arrest of Usman Ghani, a commander of TTP.
The police and Frontier Constabulary (FC) took part in the search operation. DSP Tariq Malik said the action was taken on a tip-off according to which Ghani was hiding in the said area for medical treatment. Following the information, the police and FC initiated a search operation and arrested Usman Ghani along with his four other accomplices and recovered weapons and explosive material from them. He disclosed that Ghani, who belonged to North Waziristan, got injured in an armed battle with Pakistan army and was in Karachi for treatment.
Similarly, police have arrested six suspects during raids at Korangi No 1, Nasir Colony and Chakra Goth and recovered two repeaters, four pistols and drugs from their possession. Some four more suspects namely Shabir Hussain, Adil Sultan, Naveed and Tanveer were detained by Special Investigation Team from Landhi while two others namely Ali Asghar and Nadeem were arrested by Saudabad police.
The LEAs have also claimed to have arrested five more suspects during a search operation at Liaquatabad, Azam Nagar and FC Area and recovered weapons and drugs. Meanwhile, Pak Colony police on a tip-off conducted a raid near Old Golimar to recover hostages but remained unsuccessful in the operation.
