Stroke is the most common neurological cause of mortality in the world; it is said to be the third leading cause of death. In Pakistan, stroke accounts for 41 percent of the total disease burden of the country. The theme of this year's World Stroke Day is '1 in 6', that is, every six seconds, regardless of age or gender - someone, somewhere will die from stroke.
The '1 in 6' campaign celebrates the fact that not only can stroke be prevented, but that stroke survivors can recover and regain their quality of life with the appropriate care and support. Aga Khan University Hospital will be holding a seminar on World Stroke Day on October 29, to create awareness about strokes, and elaborate on its symptoms, causes and prevention.-PR
