On the directives of the Chief Minister District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Peshawar Siraj Ahmad Khan held a meeting with President and cabinet members of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce on Friday to discuss the problems being faced by the traders in Peshawar and seek early solution to them. On this occasion, SSP Operation and SP Cantt were also present.
The meeting threadbare discussed various issues including closure of Peshawar Cantt during Eid holidays, load unload tax, traffic, complaint against police, cattle mandi issue, illegal taxi stand in front of Frontier College for Women Peshawar, dengue virus spray and high prices of vegetables and tabled viable proposals in this regard.
The President Chamber of Commerce Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and his cabinet colleagues expressed their anguish over the closure of Peshawar City during Eid days for the last three Eids as due to the closure of Cantt area, the business community suffer heavy financial losses and requested for taking the issue with the concerned quarters. Similarly, they also agitated the imposition of load and unload tax by various towns and requested the district administration to take the issue with Secretary Local Government for its revival in the larger public interest.
Similarly, on this occasion they pointed out various problems concerning the traffic police and presented a plan to SSP Operation easing the traffic flow in district Peshawar. On this occasion complaints against police personnel, deployed on various check posts especially at Pahari Pura, Hashtnagri and Gul Bahar Police Stations, were registered and the SSP assured that appropriate action will be initiated for its early redress.
The District Administration informed the meeting that ban has already been imposed on the cattle mandis in Peshawar city and shifted the same to Ring Road in open spaces and the SSP Operation has been asked to co-ordinate with the TMAs to implement the orders in its true spirit.
Referring to the illegal taxi stand in front of Frontier College for Women Peshawar, the DCO informed that they have already taken action on the complaint from the Principal of the college and have impounded 15 vehicles and its drivers have been sent to the judicial lock up.
The meeting showed satisfaction over the dengue virus spray carried out by the Town Municipal Administration and Peshawar City and its surrounding areas and asked the PDA to arrange such spray in Hayatabad and also ensure cleanliness during Eid-ul Azha and cancel the holidays of sanitation staff as the DCO Peshawar shall check in person during Eid days to ensure cleanliness of the city.
On this occasion, the Fruit Mandi Association requested the DCO to impose ban on the transportation of vegetable to Afghanistan as the prices of the same are going up especially during Eid days. The DCO assured the president of Chamber of Commerce that all their genuine problems would be solved on priority basis adding that a model bazaar on Ashraf Road Peshawar would be established which will be free from congestion and sought his help in this regard.
