A religious scholar belonging to Shia sect was gunned down in the limits of Aram Bagh police station, on Friday. According to police, Kausar Zaidi, 50, son of Khursheed Zaidi was targeted by armed pillion riders when he was going on his bike. The victim received two bullets on his upper torso and died on the spot. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK).
Police said the deceased was Nikkah-Kawah by his profession. When contacted, Aftab Channar, MLO CHK said the victim received two bullets; one on his face while another on the neck. He said the bullet that hit the face proved fatal. Meanwhile, Asif Rizvi, spokesman for Shia Ulema Council condemning the killing, demanded of the government to take the culprits to task. He said the victim, who was the resident of Abbas Town, came under attack a few months ago. Shops and markets were closed and tension gripped in the area. No case was registered till filing of this report.
