At-least 120 shanties burnt to ashes while three persons including a woman and two children sustained injures in a fire that mysteriously broke out in Shanti Nagar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal in the limits of Aziz Bhatti Police on Friday. Official sources in the fire brigade department said that on the information received from unknown caller, the department sent three fire tenders.
However, the fire engulfed the shantytown completely before they reached the spot hence they called four more tenders for backup. Later, three more fire brigade trucks' along-with two water tankers reached the site and employed these to control the fire. They said that over a hundred shanties completely burnt to ashes that could be brought under control in three hours.
Rescue sources said three persons including an elderly woman Mai Noor and two children sustained burn injuries and were moved to Burns Ward, Civil Hospital for treatment. Police dispelled to have found any criminal clue behind this incident, saying that no evidence in the said connection was witnessed from the spot. They suspected that the fire might have been broken out due to some human error. However, the inhabitants, mostly menial workers belonging to the Southern Punjab belt, suspected involvement of criminal element in the incident.
