To produce researchers and experts about neighbouring states affairs, the University of Peshawar has established a Regional Study Centre (RSC) here at the campus. The central basic purpose is to produce specialists and researchers on Afghanistan, India, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the Central Asian republics affairs.
The centre would focus on the study and research with respect to the geography, politics, economy, governance system, religion and natural resources of the countries for better regional foreign policy guidelines to the policy makers. For the purpose, the first batch BS-regional studies has approved here on Friday during a meeting held under the University Vice-Chancellor Dr Azmat Hayat Khan in chair.
Director Admissions, Dr Hizbullah Khan, Co-ordinator RSC Dr Adnan Sarwar Khan and other faculty members also attended the meeting. The Vice-Chancellor, Dr Hayat Khan, while addressing on the occasion said that the University of Peshawar has great significance as serving a gateway for central Asian states.
He said that the economic uplift and prosperity could not be possible without the knowledge of neighbouring states and establishing good bilateral relationships with them based on our strategic interests. "Our study is much limited about the neighbouring countries," he said and expressed the hope that the Regional Study Centre (RSC) would produce researchers and specialists on regional study. He directed the University officials to start BS regional studies classes by December this year. The RSC co-ordinator, Dr Adnan Sarwar Khan, said that the centre would focus on the internal and external aspects of the region.
