Leader of opposition in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday ruled out possibility of military takeover, saying any unconstitutional step would neither be in interest of army nor the country. Talking to mediamen after attending a seminar on the presentation of "Integrity Shields" on Accountability and Performance of Public Accounts Committee (PAC), he said undoubtedly dragging military into politics would neither be in the interest of the country nor the military itself.
He advised mediamen not to raise such questions. He said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) would not support any undemocratic and unconstitutional move aimed at derailing the system. "We will not support any unconstitutional move which is against the democratic norms and aimed at derailment of the system," he said.
He clarified that PML-N's movement was not targeted on any specific 'person' or the government. The drive was against the bad governance and its senselessness to resolve problems of the masses, corruption, failed policies and loadshedding, he said. Nisar further clarified that the movement was also not targeted on the Senate's next year election.
When asked does PML-N has any intention to bring a no-confidence motion against prime minister in National Assembly, he said that his party did not have the required majority for passage of such a motion. He said that completion of five-year tenure for any government was dependent on performance of that government, adding that it was unfortunate that PPP-led government was doing everything except resolving problems of the masses.
