The Punjab Agriculture Minister Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh has directed the Punjab Seed Corporation (PSC) officials to increase the capacity of the Corporation's seed processing plant. The Minister issued these directives during a surprise visit to the seed processing plant of the Corporation situated at Piplan.
He said that increased capacity would ensure provision of more certified seeds to the growers, says a spokesman of the agriculture department here on Saturday. He was informed that this seed processing plant prepare seed for wheat, gram, mong and other crops and it has the capacity of preparing 5 tons of seed per hour. In 100 days season, this plant produces 7200 metric tons of certified seed, PSC officials further informed Aulakh.
The provincial agriculture minister directed the PSC officials to ensure timely supply of certified seeds to the growers on reasonable rates. Provision of certified quality seeds would help increasing the per acre yield of different important crops especially wheat, he added.
Later the Minister also paid surprise visit to agriculture farm of the provincial agriculture department situated in the same area and expressed his displeasure over the deteriorated situation of the farm. He also issued warning to the Deputy District Officer Agriculture concerned, Dr Muhammad Azam on the deteriorated situation of the agricultural farm and asked him to improve it on urgent basis.
