The rupee managed to retain its weekend firmness against dollar on the currency market on Monday, dealers said. The rupee rose by 10 paisa in relation to dollar for buying and selling at 86.48 and 86.52, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: In the first Asian trade dollar leapt against yen by the most in three years on Monday, hitting a three-month high after Japan stepped into the market to curb the yen's rise, although traders doubted the move would have a long-lasting impact.
The greenback, recently softened by speculation of more easing by the Federal Reserve, spiked more than four percent to 79.55 yen, after hitting another all-time low of 75.31 yen on EBS early in Asian trade. Inter bank buy/sell rates for taka against dollar on Monday: 76.20-76.25 (previous 76.19-76.20) Call Money Rates: 12.00-15.00 percent (previous 7.25-14.00 percent). China's yuan closed slightly higher on Monday after a record high mid-point fixing but hit its lower daily trade limit due to strong demand for the US currency.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee gained 40 paisa against the dollar for buying at 86.30 and it gained 20 paisa for selling at 86.80, they said. The rupee also picked up Rs 1.60 versus euro for buying and selling at Rs 119.94 and Rs 120.44, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: Pak rupee was opened on a positive note and was appreciated by 20-paisa against the US dollar in the local currency market on Monday. According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at its last Saturday closing of Rs 86.50 and Rs 87.00 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. In the absence of buying support the dollar could not sustain and was declined to Rs 86.30 and Rs 86.80 on buying and selling side, respectively, the dealers said. Likewise, the rupee showed strength and was improved against the pound sterling. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 137.20 and Rs 137.70, as compared to previous closing of Rs 138.20 and Rs 139.00 respectively, the dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Monday. The dollar opened at Rs 87.60 (buying) and Rs 88.05 (selling) against last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 87.60 (buying) and Rs 88.05 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 137.80 (buying) and Rs 137.90 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 137.80 (buying) and Rs 137.90 (selling).
