At least seven persons including four women were killed in separate incidents in different areas of the metropolis here on Wednesday. According to police and rescue sources, two persons lost their lives when a speedy dumper (TKY-549) rammed into Hilace van near Yousuf Goth Terminal in the limits of Maripur police station.
They said the victims, who were identified as Abdur Rehman, 26, son of Bakhtiar and Saeed Khan, 26 son of Fazal, were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK). They said the responsible driver managed to flee while police took his dumper into custody. A case (423/11) was registered on complaint of Rehman's uncle Noor Amin. They said the deceased, who were unmarried and residents of Muslimabad, were the suppliers of edible oil and at the time of incident were on their duty.
In another incident, a 50-year-old woman namely Momal Bibi was crushed to death at Two-minute roundabout in the remits of Bilal colony police station. The victim, who was the resident of Surjani, was hit by a speedy dumper (LHC-190) while crossing the road. Resultantly, she died on spot while the responsible driver managed to flee from the scene. Later, the inhabitants of the area gathered at the spot and torched the dumper. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH). No case was registered till filing of this report.
Another woman namely Shamsa, 54, wife of Khursheed was knocked down by a motorcycle near Arshi Shopping Mall in the jurisdiction of Joharabad police station. Police said the victim, who was the resident of Safoora Goth, died on the spot while the motorcyclist, Waqar, 54, son of Nisar sustained injures. They said the body and the injured were shifted to ASH. No case was registered till filing of this report.
A motorcyclist was crushed to death by a speedy vehicle near Islam Chowk, Orangi Town sector 11 in the precincts of Pakistan Bazar police station. They said the victim, who was identified as Nasir son of Qamar and a resident of Gulshan Raza, Orangi Town, succumbed to his injuries at ASH during treatment. The responsible driver escaped from the scene. No case was registered till filing of this report.
Another woman, Sardara Bibi, 45, was killed in a road mishap at Qayumabad roundabout in the remits of Korangi Industrial police station. They said the victim was the resident of the same area where the incident took place. A 17-year-old girl committed suicide in her house in Machar colony in the limits of Docks police station. Police said the deceased, who was identified as Shazmeena daughter of Aman drank toxic substance when was scolded by her brother over some domestic issue. The body was shifted to CHK and later handed over to her heirs.
