Senators from Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) on Wednesday boycotted the Senate proceeding in protest against cut in annual development funds and drone attacks in the tribal areas. They said that they would continue their boycott of the house until the government changed its attitude and release funds for their development projects and meet their other demands.
On a point of order Senator Hafiz Abdul Rasheed said that the FATA parliamentarians would continue their protest until their demands were met. He said that the parliamentarians of FATA were protesting against the discriminatory attitude of government towards them, adding that they were the representatives of seven million people but their representation was not being acknowledged.
JI Senator Professor Khurshid Ahmed urged the government to resolve the matter, and added JI would join the protest of the FATA members to express solidarity with them. JUI-F senators also joined the walk out of the FATA parliamentarians. Leader of the House Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari said that there were complaints regarding release of funds to FATA parliamentarians. He assured the House that the chief whip and Minister for Finance would resolve the issue.
Meanwhile, Senators belonging to allied parties of the government threatened to completely boycott the proceedings of current Senate session if the ministers remain absent from the House. During question hour, the ministers were not present in the House that irked the parliamentarians. The senators were of the view that the ministers were not giving due importance to the House. They requested the chair to take action against the ministers, adding that if the ministers would not ensure their presence in the House then they would completely boycott the proceedings of the House.
