July-April of fiscal year 2011: Pak-China trade volume reaches $6.12 billion mark

The trade volume between Pakistan and China during July-April of the fiscal year 2010-11 stood at $6.122 billion. According to information provided by the commerce ministry to the Senate in reply to a question, Pak imports to China worth $4.739 billion while exports amounted to $1.38 billion.
According to details, Pakistan imported spices worth $39.4 million, vegetables and pulse $99.6 million, chemical element and compound, $303.3 million fertiliser manufactured $126 million and many other items in small quantity. It was also informed that Rs 28.4 billion were incurred on import of pesticides during the last three years from various countries. More than 80 percent pesticides were imported from China, Australia, USA, Germany, UK, Switzerland and India.
These pesticides were mainly used on crops such as cotton, rice, wheat, sugarcane, maize, vegetables and fruit orchards, etc. Similarly, $19.9 billion foreign exchange was earned in 2010-11 from export of agro products. It is 4.9 percent of the total exports of the country.
