We all go through the trouble of having to charge batteries or change them when they get old, but researchers have solved this problem by introducing batteries that would never require changing.

A company called Ossia’s made Cota wireless charging that they call ‘Forever Battery’, a AA or AAA battery getting its power from the Cota Tile, which is a transmitter that can be placed in our homes and sends electricity over the air to the battery antennas that will charge it from distances up to more than 30ft.

As per Gizmodo, the device works similarly to Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi delivers internet wirelessly and the Forever Battery will power the gadgets wirelessly. Through this charging, our remote batteries might never need to be replaced.

Researchers invent battery-free phone that never dies

“Think of Wi-Fi. Just like you have a Wi-Fi router in the home, you have a Cota transmitter. You have many low-power devices, one of them could be the AA battery … inside of it has electronics that communicate and receive power from that transmitter,” said the company’s CEO Mario Obeidat.

The system does not require any particular straight line to deliver power. It can deliver signals to anywhere in any part of its range. Even if a person comes in between the rays, the beam would angle itself in a way to avoid them. Also, the system is smart enough to deliver bits of data that helps it know which devices need the most power and can prioritize them accordingly, wrote Tom’s Guide.

These batteries, however, are not yet available for consumers. Though Ossia aims to incorporate this technology in smartphone batteries, they still have a long way to go. Even if the battery is available for consumers, it will first be available for commercial application such as stores or factories before being available for domestic use.
