The rupee fell marginally against dollar in interbank market on Monday, while it maintained its weekend levels in terms of the greenback, dealers said. The rupee slipped versus dollar, dropping five paisa for buying and selling at 86.65 and 86.70, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: In the first Asian trade euro and commodity currencies held firm as investors' cheered progress on tackling Europe's debt problems, but traders remained wary as Italy prepares to test the market's appetite with a bond sale. Most traders remain unconvinced if new governments in Italy and Greece can win back investors' confidence in their debt, and are looking to Italy's auction for near-term cues.
The common currency was at $1.3754, having risen as high as $1.3811 in early trade, and slightly above $1.3751 hit in New York late on Friday. It also firmed against yen, reaching 106.71 yen at one point from New York's 106.02. The dollar versus the Indian rupee was available at Rs 50.08, in terms of the Malaysian ringgit it was trading at 3.1330 and dollar was at 6.347 in relation to the Chinese yuan. Interbank buy/sell rates for taka against dollar on Monday: 76.48-76.48 (previous 76.41-76.45) Call Money Rates: 21.00/21.00 percent (previous 10.00-21.00 percent).
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee was firm in relation to dollar for buying and selling at 86.40 and 86.70, they said. The rupee was lower in terms of euro, losing 37 paisa for buying at Rs 118.43 and at Rs 118.93 for selling, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee gained five-paisa on buying side and 15-paisa on selling side in relation to the greenback in the local currency market on Monday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar's demand could not remain intact that helped rupee improvement. At the end of trading, the dollar was closed lower at Rs 86.15 and Rs 86.55 as its buying and selling rates against the last Saturday closing of Rs 86.20 and Rs 86.70 respectively, the dealers said.
Similarly, the rupee also showed strength and appreciated its worth against the pound sterling. The pound's buying and selling rates were declined from previous closing of Rs 137.80 and Rs 138.70 to Rs 137.00 and Rs 138.00, respectively, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Monday.
The dollar resumed trading at Rs 87.60 (buying) and Rs 88.05 (selling) against last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 87.60 (buying) and Rs 88.05 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 137.80 (buying) and Rs 137.90 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 137.80 (buying) and Rs 137.90 (selling).
