Besides introducing public private partnership model through Punjab Education Foundation (PEF), different holistic programmes have also been launched by the Punjab government to enhance functional literacy. This also includes introducing literacy programme in 32 different districts.
This was stated by Chairman, Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) Raja Anwar while presiding over a meeting of different NGOs working in the field of education in the province, at his office, on Wednesday. Different PEF high officials were also present on the occasion.
Talking to the delegation, Raja Anwar maintained that Punjab government was working to ameliorate the lot of the common-man by giving them necessary strength in shape of education and need-based skills to excel in life.
"It is expected that educational exposure will also result in promoting knowledge economy." Giving a detail of different steps taken for promoting literacy at the grassroots, he said that Punjab Literacy and Livelihood Programme has been launched in Multan and D G Khan divisions while brick kilns project has been started in Multan and Khanewal districts to combat the menace of illiteracy and to achieve the goal of 100 percent literacy by 2020. Besides this, Community Learning Centres had been also working in Sahiwal division, he added.
Raja Anwar asked the NGOs to reposition their activities in the remote hinterlands where people most need them. They should realise the rural population to prioritise education for their children. Only this way, they can get rid of poverty and improvised conditions, he concluded. On the occasion, NGOs delegation appreciated the Punjab government's efforts for promoting educational facilities for all the people.
