Government College University Lahore Ravians Quiz Society (GCU RQS) on Wednesday organised the Faiz Ahmed Faiz Quiz Competition 2011, which was won by the university's History Department with overall 155 points. GCU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Khaleeq ur Rehman was chief guest at the battle of minds amongst as many as 13 academic departments of the GC University Lahore.
The competition spanned up to 6 rounds namely; Team round, Individual round, Category Round, Multimedia Round, Speed Round and Dodge Round, in which questions mainly focused the literary works and life of Faiz Ahmed Faiz, poet of the east Allama Muhammad Iqbal and Rajinder Singh Bedi. Four departments namely, Department of Statistics, Chemistry, Psychology and History qualified for the final round hosted by GCU quizmasters Rana Saifullah and Syma Nawaz Cheema hosted the competition.
After a rigorous battle of minds, the Statistics Department was declared third, Department of Chemistry secured 2nd position whereas, team from Department of History comprised of Amish Hassan and Tehseen Wattoo scored the highest points to lift the winners' trophy of Faiz Ahmed Faiz Quiz Competition 2011.
Addressing the prize distribution ceremony, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman said that celebrating the year 2011, as the year of Faiz Ahmed Faiz, the GCU has initiated a quiz competition named after the eminent Old Ravian poet to pay tribute to his influential poetry.
He advised the Ravians to lead a life of a true Muslim and a patriot Pakistani. He paid tribute to Faiz, Allama Iqbal and Rajinder Singh Bedi and especially discussed Iqbal's stay in Germany, which even Germans reckon and named their street after the Muslim poet. He threw light on the glorifying era of Muslim scientists such as Ibn-e-Haisham, Al Beironi etc and stressed the students to bring the Muslim glory back in the field of social sciences and science and technology.
