Appointment of Zaka Ashraf: LHC directs registrar office to consolidate two petitions
Justice Azmat Saeed of the Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Wednesday directed registrar office to consolidate two petitions challenging appointment of Zaka Ashraf as Pakistan cricket board (PCB) chairman and rose for November 24. The petitioner a bar member Tariq Asad said the respondent had no management experience and also did not have educational qualification to hold this prestigious office.
He said Ashraf's appointment was not on merit and merely a political appointment. He submitted that Zaka Ashraf was made PCB chairman on political consideration, as he enjoyed a good relation with President Asif Ali Zardari. Asad said as per the international cricket council (ICC) rules direct appointments in a cricket board could not be made and the general body of the board will have the right to elect its chairman. He asserted that according to ICC, appointments on political basis could not be allowed in PCB.
He submitted that the board of directors had not recommended the name of Zaka Ashraf for chairmanship of the cricket board and federal government bypassed the board of directors. He requested to declare the appointment as illegal and unconstitutional act. He also prayed to the court to restrain Zaka Ashraf from performing as Chairman PCB.
