Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday slammed the PPP-led government for "causing harm to the country's economy". "Rampant corruption, inapt policies and poor governance of the PPP government has led to unprecedented price hike, unemployment and load shedding in the country," Nawaz Sharif said while talking to a former deputy speaker of National Assembly Jaffer Iqbal who, accompanied by MNA Ms Ishrat Ashraf and MPA Zeb Jaffer, called on him here at PML-N Secretariat.
Nawaz said that the PML-N "is determined to eliminate corruption" from the country. The experienced team of the PML-N has full capability to steer the country out of prevailing crisis and put it on the road to progress and prosperity, he said, adding that "evolving the charter of Pakistan (CoP) for 10-15 years is necessary to provide strong foundation in the fields of energy, economy, education, infrastructure and governance."
He said that PML-N in its tenure in 1990s gave free economy to the country and the nation and the present modern economic structure are based on those policies. He said: "We constructed airports, seaports and motorways, and restored self-respect of Pakistanis working abroad, but the forces of status quo caused harm for the country by removing an elected government. Had our government not been toppled, Pakistan would have been the most prosperous country of the region today."
He said: "In 1999, PML-N again restarted journey for putting the country on the path of progress and prosperity. The then Indian PM Vajpayee arrived in Pakistan with a message of peace, but Pervez Musharraf again imposed martial law that caused much harm to the country," he said.
Nawaz said that organised, strong and active political parties are the asset of the nation. "The PML-N has emerged as symbol of democracy and rule of law because we are waging a just struggle for economic independence and supremacy of constitution," he said. He praised all those who courageously faced dictatorship for the cause of democracy. He said the PML-N has zero tolerance for corruption and, in the PML-N-led Punjab government, not a single scandal of corruption has emerged.
