Director General Rangers, Lieutenant General Mohammad Ijaz Chaudhry has informed the business community that FIR has been lodged of every criminal they arrested and a report has been submitted to Sindh High Court and Supreme Court in this regard.
Speaking at an interactive meeting of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Thursday, he further informed that police powers delegated to rangers on August 24 for three months to control law and order is going to lapse by the end of this month. No extension notice has been issued so for, he added. It is worth mentioning that the chamber invited press and electronic media to cover the meeting but no one was allowed to enter the meeting room.
According to those present in the meeting, the DG said that rangers have planned to establish pickets in those areas where crimes are rampant. He advised business and industrial community to carry on their business, industrial and routine activities without fear. He announced that a well equipped with latest technology ranger's cell will be established at KCCI which will work 24 hours a day seven days a week to protect and help business community. He said that efforts are been made to control street crime on the same line as it was done in the case of target killing. However, he expressed that controlling street crime is the responsibility of police. Regarding licensed armed seized during operation, he said that after verification of license the arms has been returned to the owners.
Leader of Businessmen Group and former President KCCI, Siraj Kasim Teli demanded complete ban on display of arms. He also demanded that business community should be allowed to carry arms for self-defence and they should be exempted from section 144. He demanded of the government to extend rangers police powers at least for one year. President KCCI, Mian Abrar Ahmed pointed out that street crime has increased considerably in last few weeks. He urged the DG to take appropriate measures to control street-crime and provide conducive environment so that the business community and general public could carry out their routine activities without fear.
