Some 35 probationers of 38th Commerce and Trade Group visited the office of Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) on Thursday. S Anjum Bashir Director General, PNAC who has recently taken charge of the post, briefed the officers on PNAC, its working and the achievement made so far.
He informed the officers that with the establishment of WTO and its policies on trade liberalisation, exports have become heavily dependent on supply of quality goods and services. The compliance to international standards has become important for all the countries including Pakistan to increase their market share.
The two WTO agreements on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) and Sanitary and Phytosanitary measures (SPS) required all the member countries to establish accreditation bodies in their respective government with a view to authorise laboratories, certification bodies and inspection bodies for the certification of export products.
The DG highlighting the importance of export of Halal products informed that PNAC would soon be launching this new scheme. The officers of the Commerce and Trade Group showed keen interest in knowing the role and importance of the organisation of Ministry of Science and Technology and appreciated the progress made so far. The Director General at the end presented a shield to the officer as token of remembrance.-PR
