The Federal Board of Revenue has extended the date of filing of sales tax/federal excise duty returns upto November 25, 2011 for all categories of registered taxpayers. In this connection, the FBR has issued a letter to all Chief Commissioners of Large Taxpayer Units (LTUs) and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs), here on Thursday.
According to the FBR's instructions, in exercise of the powers conferred under section 74 of the Sales Tax Act 1990 and section 43 of the Federal Excise Act 2005, the FBR has extended the last date for filing of sales tax return upto November 25, 2011, for the tax period of October 2011, for all registered persons.
FBR Member Inland Revenue Shahid Hussain Asad has taken the decision to facilitate the sales taxpayers as business and trade was unable to file their returns due to weeklong holidays during November 2011. This facilitative measure would help the taxpayers to ensure filing of returns under the relevant provisions of the Sales Tax Act 1990. Asad has promptly responded to the requests of the Karachi-based trade bodies, federations and chambers to extend the date for filing of sales tax returns for the tax period of October 2011.
