Inspector General Police (IG) Sindh, Mushtaq Shah chaired on Sunday a high level meeting with 70-member committee of Shiite Ulema, Zakireen and leaders along with senior officers of Sindh Police to discuss law and order situation during Muharram-ul-Haram.
IG Sindh said that concrete steps would be taken to ensure ban on wall chalking, banners, pamphlets or provocative speeches, CDs, DVDs or audio video-cassettes that could hurt the sentiments.
He instructed the police officials to install walk-through gates at Mosques and Imambargahs situated in sensitive areas besides CCTV cameras at the routes of central procession.
He emphasised on co-operation with volunteers positioned by the administration of the procession. IG ordered to set up parking places at appropriate distance, besides vigil at all the vehicles and ensure sweeping and clearance from bomb disposal squad at mosques and Imambargahs.
He instructed police officers posted on wireless system to provide timely information to respective police stations so as to ensure security of Ulema, Zakireen and the public.
He told that all control rooms working under supervision of DIG rank officers would remain in touch with Central Control Room set up at Police Head Office to ensure the security. The control rooms would share starting time of the processions as well as names of the Ulema, Zakireen and leaders participating in the processions.
He told that only those vehicles bearing special stickers issued by police would be allowed to take part in the processions. He said that Station House Officers would be responsible to execute security plan in their respective areas. He sounded note of warning that if anybody found negligent.
He ordered to make alert Rapid Response Force, Commando Police, CID and Special Branch in order to ensure every security measure. He underlined importance of Peace Committees and asked to accommodate the proposals given by civil society in security plan.
