Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has constituted Institutional Reforms Group (IRG), under Chairmanship of PML-N Deputy Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal MNA. Addressing the first meeting of the group, Ahsan Iqbal emphasised the need for institutional reforms to keep pace with the unprecedented changes taking place today in the world and society due to revolution of information and knowledge.
He said, "Performance based, citizen centered, and easy to access government services can bridge the trust deficit of people in state institutions." After 18th amendment, he said it is imperative to reinvent the administrative structures in the provinces to ensure quality service delivery in the devolved subjects. The government of Punjab has made strides in merit and zero tolerance for corruption. However, the gap between rising expectations of citizens and government services globally could be bridged through new technologies, he added.
He said there is urgent need for pushing Police Reforms, Civil Service Reforms, District Administration Reforms, Urban Sector Reforms, Local Bodies Reforms and e-government initiatives. The other members of group are Baligh ur Rahman, MNA, Rana Afzal MPA, Kh Salman MPA, Professor Z I Qureshi, Barrister Zafarullah, Addl Chief Secretary, Secretary Finance, Secretary Services, Addl Secretary CM, and others.
