National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has clarified that aliens are registered by the National Alien Registration Authority (Nara) across the country, not by Nadra. The matter relates to ambit of Nara as it was briefed by the Minister of Interior in the National Assembly.
Nadra spokesman stated this while clarifying news item published in sections of press regarding alien registration. He said that a question was moved by a Member National Assembly (MNA) Syed Zafar All Shah on aliens' registration in the National Assembly and the Minister of Interior answered that the subject was related to National Alien Registration Authority (Nara).
The illegal immigrants are not registered by Nadra and hence, no Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) had been issued to them. However, strong mechanism existed within Nadra which upon information took appropriate action, he added. The spokesman said that Nadra had also created a biometric alien watch list that consisted of photographs and fingerprints of Afghans as well as illegal immigrants.-PR
