ISPR statement

In a statement released on Saturday, ISPR said that on the night of 25/26 November Nato helicopters and fighter aircraft carried out unprovoked firing on two Pakistan Army border posts in Mohmand Agency as a result of which 24 troops embraced shahadat and 13 were injured.
It further stated that General Kayani strongly condemned Nato's blatant and unacceptable act which resulted in loss of lives of Pakistani soldiers. While lauding the effective response by the soldiers of Pakistan Army in self-defence, General Kayani directed that all necessary steps be undertaken for an effective response to this irresponsible act.
The ISPR statement said that Pakistani troops effectively responded immediately in self defence to Nato/Isaf's aggression with all available weapons. Meanwhile, the civilian government has issued directive to cut off the Nato supply line as retaliation to Nato's aggression.
This was announced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Masood Kausar in a press conference in Islamabad. He termed the raid an open violation of territorial integrity, leaving the whole nation in a state of shock. Kausar said that the Nato supply line has been cut off in reaction to the attack.
Pakistan closed two Nato supply routes into Afghanistan following the attack on Pak Army check post. Around 40 percent of non-lethal Nato supplies and fuel go via Pakistan, with hundreds of supply trucks using the two routes into Afghanistan. Pakistan has halted the flow of Nato supplies on Pak-Afghan boarder near Chaman and Turkham in response to the attack, said a representative of transport association. Talking to Business Recorder, he said that supply chain of Nato/Isaf, bound for Afghanistan, has been halted at Torkhum boarder at around 11 am.
He said that approximately 300 Nato trailers/containers were stopped to cross the Pak-Afghan boarder, adding that the transporters were ordered to turn back. An official of Pak Army said that the incident was the deadliest for Pak soldiers since the US air strike in June 2008, which had killed 11 Pak troops-US ally in war against terror. According to ISPR, a day earlier General John Allen of Isaf had called on General Kayani at General Headquarters. Both had discussed measures concerning co-ordination, communication and procedures among Pakistan Army, Isaf and Afghan Army, aimed at enhancing border control on both sides.
