Miscreants blew up the main line railway tracks in interior Sindh early Sunday morning at three places with low intensity explosive devices, however, traffic was restored after repairs, officials of Pakistan Railways said.
The tracks made target included those at Hussainabad area near Hyderabad, the second near Nawabshah Railway Station and the third at Mehrabpur in Naushero Feroze area.
"The blasts occurred one after the other at around 6am to 6.10am, and the traffic was restored for movement of trains by 8.30am," said an official of Railways at Karachi City Station where the main control room is located.
The official said that the Up and Down tracks were damaged near Nawabshah Railway station and the apparently local-made devices' blast caused one foot deep crater.
He said that Karachi-bound Tezgam escaped big disaster as the blast on down track occurred just one and half minute before the arrival of train. The driver of Tezgam took immediate action and used emergency brakes to stop the train. Other trains heading for up country were stopped at different stations, he maintained.
Police contingent and bomb disposal squad were summoned immediately to check for any more devices. Later railway maintenance staff arrived at the scene, which made temporary arrangements to pass up and down trains. The tracks were fully repaired for rail traffic after hectic efforts of three hours.
