Minister for Communications Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan has said that motorway police will be equipped with all modern facilities, besides constructing more trauma centres on all motorways and highways. While addressing the inaugural ceremony of the security/road safety facilitation centre constructed on Motorway (M-1), Minister said that a trauma centre on Karachi superhighway would start its work soon.
More security and facilitation centre would be constructed on all motorways and highways, and all modern facilities will be available for road users, where they can take some rest, and will also be provided full security. High officials of NH&MP and NHA were also present on the occasion. The Federal Minister stressed upon NHA officials that summary regarding construction of facilitation centres on Motorways and Highways may be furnished at the earliest.
He congratulated all the officials and officers of NH&MP on the 14th anniversary of motorway police. Inspector General National Highways & Motorway Police Wajid Ali Khan Durrani said that it is a matter of pride that in a short period of 14 years, the force has been able not only to achieve high standards and new culture of policing, but also sustained it.
He said that NH&MP serving the commuters on more than 4000 km of motorways & highways which carry 95% of vehicular traffic, more than 3700 road users are being helped daily. He said that while helping the commuters in distress, so far 37 officers laid down their lives and earned "Shahadat".
The IG said that NH&MP also revived the extensive activities like Nooriabad Industrial Estate on Karachi-Hyderabad super highway. He said that during the early period of construction of M-1 it becomes a high crime area, therefore, the idea of the posts came in mind, but now with the kindness of Almighty Allah and presence of the personnel's of National Highways & Motorway Police, the crime dropped to a bare minimum level.
