Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that the PPP-led democratic government's action after Nato's aggression against Pakistan was in accordance with the sentiments of the people of Pakistan. He said this while talking to reporters here at Allama Iqbal International Airport upon arrival here to attend the Cabinet meeting.
Rehman Malik asked the international community to realise the fact that Pakistan had suffered a lot in the war on terrorism. Answering a question, he said the government had suspended Nato supplies to Afghanistan through Pakistan and also issued notice to the US authorities for evacuation of Shamsi airbase in Balochistan within 15 days.
When asked about former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Malik said difference of opinion was the essence of democracy. However, he said political success is always decided through a public vote and holding a gathering of people does not matter. Talking about recent killings in Karachi, Malik said the possibility of involvement of a foreign hand in such acts couldn't be ruled out. He added that these killings were not the result of sectarian strife. He added that foreign elements were trying to shatter country's peace through propagation of religious hatred and sectarianism.
