PML-N Azad Jammu and Kashmir chapter on Saturday lashed out at AJK government for declaring Lord Nazir Ahmad, a Kashmir born British parliamentarian, as persona non grata, and termed the move as an attempt to appease India. PML-N AJK chapter organising committee secretary Ghulam Qadir said that the AJK government had done what India could not do.
Qadir is a former speaker of AJK legislative assembly. He strongly criticised the step in which Lord Nazir has also been threatened to revoke his nationality. Recently, Nazir has been declared "persona non grata" by AJK government cabinet reportedly due his alleged undemocratic activities with former Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza in London and his lack of interest towards Kashmir issue and using the issue for personal gain and popularity.
"Nobody can take away the Kashmiri identity of the member of the British House of Lord having a track record of serving the Kashmir cause and defending the rights of the Pakistani and Kashmiri expatriates in United Kingdom," Qadir said. Denouncing the criticism on PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif by AJK Prime Minister Abdul Majeed for taking 'memogate' to Supreme Court, he said that Nawaz had played the role of a prudent politician. "Nawaz Sharif knocked at the door of the apex court sensing the weak status of the parliament and the crucial phase the country is passing through," he added.
He said that the PML-N chief had exposed conspiracy against the country's security and the judiciary had formed an impartial inquiry commission on the memo controversy headed by a senior and competent officer.
Another PML-N AJK chapter leader Akram Shah also criticised the AJK government for the move. He said that the rulers were finding it difficult to spare themselves from dozens of cases including memogate scandal, Swiss cases, NICL and rental power scams. "The nation knows who is a conspirator, who is hatching conspiracies against the army and the sensitive institutions," he said. He also criticised the PPP government for making mockery of the Charter of Democracy (CoD). He also alleged that the PPP government was involved in confrontation with the judiciary.
