Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Barrister Masood Kausar on Wednesday said that government was committed to continue efforts for peace and development in FATA, simultaneously, adding that the government had already allocated huge development outlay for FATA.
"The development process is being monitored to ensure judicious and efficient utilisation of development funds", he said while talking to a delegation of North Waziristan Agency, comprising elders, political leaders and journalists, which called on him here at Governor's House.
The delegation was headed by Peer Abdul Hameed Shah, who along with other members of the delegation appreciated the efforts of the Governor for peace and development of FATA and assured him all out support. They expressed pleasure over the amendment to FCR and extension of Political Parties Act to FATA and declared it another bold step taken by the present democratic government to meet long-standing demands of tribal people.
The Governor said that extension of political activities to FATA was part of the government's wide ranging agenda for a change in FATA, adding "this has made the FATA people part of the democratic process whereas amendments to FCR are aimed at securing the basic rights of FATA people".
He said that the tribal people had many qualities and capabilities hence they needed opportunities, which the government was committed to provide them. The Governor said that one of the major benefit of the democratic system was to make the government functionaries subservient to people." We have instructed the political administration to change their attitude towards people and serve them relentlessly, as they are supposed to serve not to rule". The Governor urged the tribal elders and members of civil society to keep a vigil on the development process in their respective area, so that the development funds are fairly utilised.
The Governor issued orders on some of the demands of the delegation and assured that rest of their demands would be taken up with the respective departments. Earlier the Governor attended a briefing on "Investment Promotion Council", established in the private sector.
Khalid Aziz, Chairman Regional Institute of Policy, Research and Training highlighted the aims and objectives of the newly established Council and said that IPC would strive to promote investment in FATA as well as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by providing help and guidance to the potential investors thus supplementing the government's initiatives in this regard.
