Youm-e-Ashur was observed in Multan and other parts of Southern Punjab on Tuesday to pay homage to the martyrs of Karbala. Over 200 processions of Taazia and Zuljinnah were taken out from different Imam Bargahs. The main processions of Ustad and Shagird's Taazia were taken out from Khuni Burj and other processions joined them amid tight security.
The main Ashura procession in Multan began from Imam Bargah Jawadia and headed towards Pak-gate, Haram gate, bohar gate for Zuhrain prayers and concluded at Shah Gardez. Around 168 faithful were injured when they used swords and scalpel chains at Daulat gate and Haram-gate. More than 9000 policemen, volunteers, police, quami razakars and civil defence personnel performed their duties. No untoward incident was reported in any part of southern Punjab.
In Lahore, the procession began from Nisar Haveli and culminated at Karbala Gamay Shah. The procession then returned to the Imam Bargah at night for Sham-e-Ghareeban. Around 9,000 police personnel were deployed on procession routes with walk-through gates, metal detectors and mobile jammers.
