Amendments to Cr.PC: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to take up proposal with CCI

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Wednesday decided to take up proposal of certain amendments to Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.PC) with the Council of Common Interests (CCI) after getting no response from the Centre. The provincial government had proposed specific amendments to (Cr.PC) approved in the Cabinet meeting in 2008.
The amendments were forwarded on January 31, 2009 to the Centre, but no response was received so far in this regard, said KP government spokesman Mian Iftikhar Hussain while briefing reporters regarding the decisions of 42nd provincial Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti.
Hussain said they had sent another proposal pertaining to amendments to Police Order to the Centre on August 30, 2010, but did not receive any response as yet, therefore, the government has decided to take up the issue during the scheduled meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI), he added.
He said the meeting had again called for resolving the issue at parliament level, in case it fails to take any decision in this regard. The government would discuss it in the upcoming meeting of the CCI. He said the meeting had completely backed the stand and decisions of military and civilian leaderships regarding the unprovoked Nato attack on military checkposts and stressed the need for reviewing thoroughly the alliance policy with Nato forces.
He said the Khyber Paktunkhwa government would support any decision in connection with the new policy. The meeting lauded the efforts of the authority at divisional and provincial levels along with law enforcement agencies for maintaining law and order situation during 10 days of Muharram, he said.
When asked about the creation of different divisions in the province, he said the government was ready to create Abaseen Division. He, however, said the decision has to be taken in this regard. He said the government intends to divide Malakand into two divisions.
