Keeping in view the utter need of quality, affordable and accessible contraceptive products in the conservative areas of Pakistan CSM has now decided to launch FEMPLANT in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province of Pakistan. In order to officially launch FEMPLANT in the province an event was organised at a local hotel in Peshawar. The event was attended by numerous dignitaries from the government sector as well as from the NGO sector and other partner organisations.
Chief guests for the event were Ahmed Hanif Aurakzai, Secretary, Population Welfare Department, KPK and Dr Shabina Raza, Chief, Health Sector Reform Unit, KPK represented the Health Department. Speaking on the occasion, Ahmed Hanif Aurakzai lauded the efforts of the Marie Stopes Society and said that in order to make our society more peaceful and stronger we need to empower women and should give them freedom to make choices. He also stressed on private public partnership in the health sector in order to make the society a better place to live in. Speaking on behalf of the Health Department, Dr Shabina Raza emphasised that co-ordination amongst the public and private sectors is extremely important in order to spread awareness with regards to family planning and reproductive health. Further, she congratulated the entire team of Marie Stopes Society (MSS) and Contraceptive Social Marketing (CSM) on taking the entire agenda forward and pledged that the Health Department would show its ownership and will take MSS's mission forward. Both the honourable guests laid pressure on other partners to step up and expand the network of their services and work in close collaboration with the Health Department, Population Welfare Department and Marie Stopes Society.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Noon Nawaz Khan (DG Population Welfare Department, KPK), Dr Najma Sattar (Director Technical, Population Welfare Department, KPK), Dr Rizwan (Care International) and Siddique Kiyani (CEO, CSM). Contraceptive Social Marketing (CSM) has launched a sub dermal contraceptive implant with the name of FEMPLANT in the country and aims to prepare the trained and skilled workforce to serve women with more choices in modern contraceptive methods.
FEMPLANT protective effects are immediately reversible upon removal. It works by releasing a hormone progestin, like the natural hormone progesterone, in a woman's body. FEMPLANT can be easily inserted and removed when needed; the small and flexible rods are inserted in the upper arm directly the skin.
CSM has made great efforts to make FEMPLANT available, accessible and affordable across Pakistan. In this regard, CSM has ensured that FEMPLANT is easily available in hospitals, pharmacies along with MSS "Behtar Zindagi Centres" service facilities across the country. The distribution of FEMPLANT is carried out by Contraceptive Social Marketing (CSM), which is a sister concern of MSS. Along with the distribution, MSS has made sure that CSM imparts necessary training to all interested partners.-PR
