Jamaat-e-Islami chief, Syed Munawwar Hasan, has said that the blood of the 24 Pakistan army officers and troops in a blatant Nato attack last week could not be condoned through a simple apology from the US. He has said that a permanent stoppage of Nato supplies was in line with the dictates of national security and the unanimous decisions/ resolutions of the parliament and the APC called by the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, and should be implemented in letter and spirit.
He said that ties with the US could not be normalised unless Washington also gave a dead line for its withdrawal from the region and stopped drone attacks. He said, had the government taken a bold stance in Raymond Davis ' case, and tried him under the law of the land, Washington's attitude would have been much different.
The JI chief said that the Nato attack last week was deliberate as had been held by Pak forces. However, the US was now terming it unintentional. Syed Munawwar Hasan said certain quarters were of the view that if the US tendered an apology on Nato attack, the Nato supplies should be restored. Such an approach, he said, was in conflict with the nation's aspirations and the Defense Committee decisions. He said in the beginning, the government itself disgraced the revolutions of the two sessions of the parliament and the APC by failing to implement these. This had emboldened the US to make the recent helicopter attacks causing the martyrdom of our two dozen troops. He said if the rulers took a soft line this time again and Nato supplies were restored unconditionally, the worst could be expected in future.
