Minister for Culture, Ms Sassui Palijo has announced that an amount of Rs 5.2 million has been approved for medical assistance to 68 writers, poets and artists of Sindh, while another amount of Rs 3.780 million has already been distributed among 112 rain victim artists of the province.
In her press release issued by media cell centre department here Friday, Ms Sassui Palijo said that since this segment of society is being considered most sensitive, the provincial culture department has established an endowment fund to help them in difficult times. She said that it is the first time in the history that the writers, artists and poets of Sindh are being taken care of and helped from endowment fund in addition to providing them good opportunities/platform of their performances by provincial culture department.
However, she said that her management was experiencing difficulties in awarding financial help when some artists are submitting incomplete prescribed proforma. She appealed the artists, writers to submit their prescribed proforma with complete information so that their cases could be considered positively. She was of the view that Provincial Culture Department was the custodian of endowment fund of artists and it was bound to maintain its transparency.
She also announced that a feedback cell headed by Secretary Culture Department Abdul Aziz Uqaily has been established to resolve the problems of writers, poets and artists under participatory approach. She advised the beneficiaries to contact either personally or telephone to Secretary Culture so that their problems could be resolved on priority basis.
