The Sindh government ignored the significance of International Anti-Corruption Day, observed on December 9 across the world, with the theme, "ACT - Against Corruption Today". The whole world attaches great importance to this Day designated as International Anti-Corruption Day by the General Assembly of the United Nations to raise awareness about corruption.
Unfortunately, the Sindh government's Anti-Corruption Establishment and Enquiries Department did not organise any function, seminar or rally to mark the day. According to Transparency International, which publishes a yearly corruption index, corruption is a serious challenge and undermines the potential benefits of globalisation. Pakistan's 2011, Corruption Index' score is 2.5 out of 10, and ranked 42nd most corrupt country out of 183 countries, according to Transparency International. In 2010, Pakistan's score was 2.3 and ranked 34th most corrupt country out of 178 countries. Undoubtedly, fighting corruption is an extraordinary task and requires political will on the part of the government.
