Lahore Association of Businessmen for Rehabilitation of Disabled (LABARD) president and MNA, Pervez Malik has said that three million people in the country are suffering from disabilities out of which 200,000 live in Lahore and its suburbs. According to the WHO report, 10 percent population of developing countries is consisting of disabled persons.
While speaking at two-day registration camp on Friday, he said that due to lack of information, a large number of disabled persons are not able to gain any benefit from the association. He informed that as many as 108 disabled persons got registered with LABARD who would be provided free of cost medical assistance, wheelchairs, tricycles, education, training, employment and other services.
Malik said that rehabilitation of disabled persons is a sacred job and everybody should come forward to play his role. He said that the LABARD is getting a very good response from the registration camps it is holding at the Union Council level. He said that in the developed world, disabled persons are always given special treatment and are provided with every possible facility so that they could use their abilities for the wellbeing of the society. Now, the situation in Pakistan is also taking a positive turn and a large number of disabled persons are running their own businesses with the help of LABARD, he concluded.
