Peshawar Press Club (PPC) and Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) Monday remembered late senior journalist Suhail Ahmad Qalandar and the two officials martyred in the suicide attack on the club in December 2009 by holding Quraan Khwani and Fateha for their eternal peace.
Those who tribute to late Suhail Ahmad Qalandar, security person Riaz and Accountant Mian Iqbal Shah were included PPC President Saif-ul-Islam Saifi, KhUJ President Arshad Aziz Malik and senior journalist Shamim Shahid. Provincial Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussein, who was a close friend of late Qalandar, also attended the function.
Speaking on the occasion, the Provincial Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussein paid rich tributes to late Suhail Ahmad Qalandar for his journalistic services against terrorism. He said he was attending the ceremony to express solidarity with the journalist community and bereaved family on behalf of the provincial government.
He appreciated both PPC and KhUJ for organising such events to remember their late senior colleagues and those who were martyred in the suicide attack on the press club. He also paid tributes to late security person, Riaz, who sacrificed his life and saved the lives of journalists present in the building on that occasion.
Mian Iftikhar said that late Suhail Ahmad Qalandar had launched struggle through his pen against the terrorism, and his writing created awareness and spirit in the people for battling the menace of terrorism. He said that services of Qalandar would not be forgotten and be remembered for ever. He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and courage to the bereaved families to bear the loss with fortitude.
On this occasion, Quraan Khwani and Fateha were held for the eternal peace of the departed souls. Earlier PPC President Saif-ul-Islam Saifi also paid tributes to late Suhail Ahmad Qalandar and two officials of Peshawar Press martyred in the devastated suicide attack on the press club.
