Averting Vihari like incidents in future: APCNGA for devising viable plan for CNG cylinders' import

The All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) has requested the government to devise a viable plan for the import of CNG cylinders and putting in place an effective testing system to avoid Vihari and Mitiari like accidents in future. The representative body of CNG filling stations in an emergent meeting here on Monday said that the government should take appropriate steps to protect precious human lives.
It said that tragic accidents like Mitiari and Vihari where dozens of passengers lost their lives due to sub-standard CNG cylinder could not have been taken place if the regulatory authority had taken preventive steps. APCNGA further urged the government and regulatory bodies to perform their duties of monitoring and testing properly and to exempt import and custom duties on CNG cylinder & kits to stop people to go for cheaper, locally assembled, sub-standard CNG cylinders and kits.
APCNGA demanded for closure of illegal and unauthorised CNG mechanics, workshops and CNG conversion centres working in the streets and on road sides without having any training, knowledge and licence. The association demanded that CNG kits conversion and maintenance workshops should only be allowed within the premises of CNG stations.
