Four persons, including a Director of a private television channel lost their lives in the limits of Kalri police station on Tuesday in an armed scuffles between rival groups redone in several parts of Lyari. This happened despite tall claims by Sindh Rangers to have rooted out culprits from Lyari after conducting a series of search operations and recovering huge cache of arms and ammunition from different parts of Lyari and unearthing torture cells from the area.
According to police sources, the armed clash broke out between the defunct Peoples Amn Committee (PAC) and Katchi Rabita Committee (KRC) over some petty issue that dragged the old locality into high tension where heavy gunfire was reported from early Tuesday morning.
Police sources said the KRC alleged that the rival group had kidnapped over a dozen Katchi youngsters from their houses over night. They said the KRC claimed that bullet-riddled bodies of two of the kidnapped Katchis were found near Kamila Stop and Lyari General Hospital.
Among those killed since early Tuesday morning in Lyari was Abdul Rehman Hingora, who was programme director in a private Islamic TV Channel. He was returning home from work in early Tuesday morning when he was hit by a stray bullet, a colleague of the deceased told this scribe.
However, on the other hand, a representative of defunct PAC expressed apprehension that the said killings appeared to be pre-planned conspiracy with the aim to disturb the law and order situation of Lyari. He said that two Baloch victims, Elahi Buksh alias Alok Gawadri and Baloch alias Jaffar were abducted from Hingorabad and were shot dead.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses said that these deceased Baloch youths, who were alleged to have association with Baba Ladla group, had earlier demanded of the inhabitants of Hingorabad to give possession of top floor and rooftop of one of under-construction house being built on charity of area people to support an elderly widow. They said these Baloch youths along with three other accomplices went to the said area to pressurise the inhabitants to fulfil their demand but were caught by unknown armed men, who brutally beat them and shot them dead on Mauripur Road near Dua Hotel. They said that both deceased received three bullets and succumbed to their injuries on the spot.
Following the said incident, Juna Masjid area, Hingorabad, Mandir Mohalla and other areas fell into strong grip of tension where miscreants took to street and resorted heavy gunfire.
These miscreants barged into the house (595) located in the street no 8 of Lyari and kidnapped Javeed Katchi son of Dad Ghani and his brother Abdul Sattar. Later, the body of Javeed was found from Baloch workshop at Ali Muhammad Mohalla. However, a brother of the deceased, Sattar, was still missing till filing of this report. Dozens of Katchi took to streets and staged protest demonstration against the said act that led to create massive gridlock on Mauripur Road for hours. Sources said that Sindh Rangers also conducted raid at a place known as 'White House', which was said to be in the possession of Baba Ladla group, but no arrest was reported by officials.
