National Bank of Pakistan has rehabilitated 10 flood damaged public sector schools and provided them furniture, equipment and installed tube-wells for drinking water in the schools in district Nowshera. Regional Chief NBP, Altas Khan along with Executive Education Officer, Hasnat Gul paid a visit to all the rehabilitated schools and met the children in different area of District Nowshera.
Sports Culture and Corporate Social Responsible Department of NBP headed by former test cricketer, Iqbal Qasim, Group Chief HR, Qamar Hussain on the directives of NBP President, Qamar Hussain had conducted a survey of the flood-damaged schools of districts Nowshera and Charsadda. In the light of that survey, the NBP team and co-ordinator a former national football team skipper Basit Kamal along with the manager of the bank branches in the respective areas decided rehabilitation of the flood-hit schools to make it functional for the education of the future generation.
He said the rehabilitation work like provision of furniture, ceiling-fans and drinking water facility has completed in four schools comprising Government Girls High School No 2 Nowshera Kalan where 600 female students are facilitated. Principal of the School, Shahnaz Aktar on this occasion thanked NBP for the rehabilitation of the girls schools and making them operational to save the precious time of the students. Beside drinking water 100 chairs and 20 ceiling fans were provided to the school.
Similarly, a total of 553 boys' students were facilitated in the Government High School No 1 (English Medium) Nowshera Kalan. Principal of the school Niamatullah told the media team that 100 chairs and 15 ceiling fans were provided to them. He said that earlier the students were sitting on the floor. In the Governor High School Samadar Ghari, Nowshera District, 355 boys students beside provision of drinking water were facilitated with 10 ceiling fans, 100 chairs. Principal Javed Khan thanked on behalf of the students and said that the flood badly damaged the schools' classrooms. Now it has been completely renovated to make it functional and will save precious time of the students.
Government High School Nowa Khli Principal, Niamat Khan disclosed that they have 178 students in the small school and the students were having no facility of drinking water, toilets and classrooms. He said the government has also taken measures on war footing to rehabilitate the damaged school.
Atlas Khan also visited Government Middle School Zanobanda Nowshera, Government High School Koshgi Baba, and Government High School Rehman Baba Colony and inspected the ongoing work there besides directing the contractor not to use sub-standard materials in order to save precious human life. Speaking on the occasion, EDO Education, Hasnat Gul informed that a total of 136 government schools were damaged in the devastated flood of July 2010. Out of them 36 have been completely rehabilitated while 10 schools had functional with the assistance of NBP.
He said 33 schools have been reconstructed and rehabilitated through B-Project while 6 schools were constructed by AR-Japan. Atlas Khan on the occasion also announced that NBP would select 10 more schools for rehabilitation next year. He said the NBP has always responded positively as far as activities of people welfare are concerned.
He said during the flood the bank contributed Rs 7.5 million for the provision of food and held health camps all across the country. He said that the bank running of vocational training centres, providing training and skills to rural women to earn livelihood in honourable manner are in progress. He said the bank will also set up health camps at Jakra and Chamkani Villages of Khyber Pakthunkhwa where a team of qualified doctors will provide healthcare and medicines to the people.
