Professor Muhammad Muniruzzaman Mian, former Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University and Former Ambassador of Bangladesh visited Islamabad Policy Research Institute on Wednesday. He divulged his thoughts on the troubled river sharing with India. Of the fifty-seven rivers flowing into Bangladesh, fifty-four flow from North and hence exploitation of the river water by the upper riparian ie India.
India has refused to sign a treaty or even come to talks with Bangladesh on developing a water-sharing mechanism. Whenever the issue was raised by the government of Bangladesh or even in the past by the Pakistani government, India has tried to buy time. India's relations with Bangladesh are regime-specific. India continues to kill people who mistakenly cross the border. A large section of the people is anti-Indian, but Indian propaganda terms them as pro-Pakistanis. Currently, India is manipulating the concerns of the West with al Qaeda for its own advantage.-PR
