Leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday demanded of the government to place before the Parliament the agreement on handing over Shamsi Airbase to a foreign country. He also sought clarification on the comments of Condoleeza Rice in her book alleging that the Prime Minister was lying on Mumbai attacks.
The opposition leader also made it clear that if any undemocratic force is trying to derail democracy the opposition will stand by the government to save democratic institutions. Speaking on the floor of the house, he said the Parliament was not taken into confidence on the illness of the President for which different statements came from different institutions.
He said facts about the health of the President are being hidden from the nation. The truth must be brought to the limelight so that no controversy should emerge afterwards. He said DG ISI Ahmed Shuja Pasha did not lack wisdom that he would have to visit Arab states for getting permission to clamp martial law. But about the memogate controversy the DG ISI did not contradict the news.
Former Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira while responding to The Opposition Leader said we didn't hide anything from the nation and both Prime Minister and presidential spokesman have issued statements on the sudden illness of the President. Speaking on the Shamsi Airbase issue, he said the PML-N government had handed over the Airbase to the ruler of UAE as he was fond of hunting in the area adjacent to the base.
