Pakistan Railways passengers on Thursday faced great difficulties due to inordinate delay in the departure and arrival of various trains to and from Lahore to different cities because of acute shortage of fuel. Trains operational service remained suspended from Lahore to other cities in the morning for several hours as PR authorities had used all stocks of diesel to run the short and long distance trains.
However, PR resumed its operations in the evening after it received some fuel on urgent basis from PSO on payment. PR spokesman told Business Recorder that PSO has started the fuel supply after payment of Rs 630 million arrears. He said that PSO would supply more than one million liters diesel to Pakistan Railways' main storage in Lahore, which would be transported to other railway station on Friday (today).
He said as the first instalment Lahore Division received 50,000 liters fuel on Thursday. The remaining supply would reach Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, Karachi Sukhar and other destinations Friday (today), which would help normalise the train operation in the country. This fuel reserve would be sufficient for the next five days, he added. Due to acute shortage of diesel in the Lahore Division Pakistan Railways administration had to cancel Ghori Express which runs between Lahore and Faisalabad.
